Solar energy facility tender

June 29, 2015

The Northern Territory’s Power and Water Corporation recently released details of a tender to develop solar energy facilities in remote regions of the Territory. The Solar Energy Transformation Program (SETuP) is a $55 million project developed by Power and Water Corporation (PWC) to deliver nominally 10MW of solar Photovoltaic (PV) energy to nominally 35 remote indigenous communities throughout the Northern Territory.

The increasing cost of diesel fuel and logistical challenge of fuel delivery means that an ongoing reliance on diesel fuel for electricity supply to these regions poses significant and increasing financial and energy security risk.  The Solar SETuP program is designed to alleviate some of this risk by integrating solar energy to existing diesel-based mini-grids.
